One of the most exciting things that we are in the middle of putting together, is our mentorship / apprenticeship (M/A) training program. Where do we find employee’s that are experienced in eight trades? More importantly, where do we find employee’s that are experienced in eight trades that are trying to do the right thing? They are simply not out there. So we are undertaking a huge effort to create an internal written program where we can take young men – young women? – and give them the skills not only to do the work, but to be able to know how to live beneficially. A two-year-old child knows how to walk, but does he know not to touch the wood stove?
The trades we are going to be teaching with written and job performance testing will be: Well Drilling, Pump Installation and Repair, Water Treatment, Welding, Machine Shop, Excavation, Trucking, and Computer and Office Management. Then they will get their own Well Drilling & Pumps Licenses in the fourth year. The almost more important mentorship program will include Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University classes, attending the classes called ”The Truth Project” and required reading of a number of books like “Built to Last” and “How to Negotiate and Win Every Time”. We are always open to suggestions, ideas, and training materials as we build and produce this program,
I have a soft spot in my heart for young people these days. Years ago, there were several men that taught me the trades, while my parents taught me to love and serve God. These days who takes the time and invests in mechanically skilled young men that are smart, honest, and willing to work hard? We are.
There are going to be some amazing ripple effects of these valuable young people in the years to come.
PS: The men of Justice Water Systems, Inc. that wear the silver hard hats are the Journeyman. The men that wear the Orange hard hats are in the first two years of our M/A program, and the men wearing the Blue hard hats are in the last two years of our M/A program. Oh . . . the person wearing the Pink hard hat . . . she’s my wife – the BOSS!
